Nic Brown Spektre (note the 'K' midway through his name) is a Welshman who, at his most threatening, sounds like he's attempting to prove the existence of a common ground between instrumental hip-hop and black metal. He's a masterful beatmaker so even when he omits the darkness and gloom, his records remain resolutely top-notch throughout. Spectre (note the 'C' midway through his name) hails from Baltimore, Maryland and is particularly fond of trying to scare the listeners to his take on instrumental hip-hop by liberally sprinkling his doom-laden productions with samples from low budget sci-fi movies. Why did I draw these unrelated facts to your attention? Firstly, because both artists' latest albums are amazing and secondly, because I'm very, VERY sad. Favorite track: Suicide Journal.

Spirits have no concept of time....Stuck in a meandering netherworld where time is meaningless, they haunt ceaselessly, trying to find a way out of the bleak dimension they inhabit....

Which is why Spektre continues to churn out spooked-out hip-hop beats with blasts of pure funk and soul, grimey stains of gutter-level dirt, echoes of bleak disparity and gusts of spine-tingling atmospheres, all interwoven with arrangements of beautiful music.....

He really doesn't care what the current trends or flavour of the month is.

He just loves to make music like this.
